Provenance according to Ulrich Middeldorf, Complete Catalogue of the Samuel H. Kress Collection: European Sculptures XIV-XIX Century, 1976: 97-98. Middeldorf's provenance included an earlier owner as "Barthélemy Fabre, Château de la Versaudière, Ladon (Loiret)", accompanied by a note indicating that this information came "from Duveen Galleries, which it has not proved possible to substantiate."
