Domenico di Michelino, 1417-1491
Gentner, Florence. [1] (Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi [1878-1955], Rome-Florence); sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 1 September 1939 as Domenico di Michelino; gift to the National Gallery of Art in 1943; deaccessioned in 1952 and returned to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; gift 1961 to Indiana University Art Museum, Bloomington, no. 62.158. [1] This is probably Philip J. Gentner, first director of the Worcester Art Museum. After leaving this post in 1917, Gentner returned to Florence where he had spent several years prior to taking the position in Worcester, apparently buying for Boston collectors.
