Count Alexander Orloff-Davidoff, St. Petersburg, Russia, by 1896; [1] (sold, Sotheby's, London, 13 June 1934, no. 93); bought by Stuart. [2] (Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi [1878-1955] Rome-Florence); sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 1 September 1939; gift to Museo de Arte de Ponce in 1962, no. 62.0262 [1] Fritz Harck, "Notizen über italienische Bilder in petersburger Sammlungen," Repertorium für Kunstwissenschaft 19 (1896), p. 434, mentions the picture as an early Mazzolino. [2] Annotated sales catalogue in NGA library. Prince Gargarine, Russia, in provenance after Orloff-Davidoff, according to Fern Rusk Shapley, Paintings From the Samuel H. Kress Collection, Italian Schools XV- XVI Century, London, 1968, p. 78, but that seems unlikely. Perhaps Gargarine owned the painting before Orloff-Davidoff.
