Knoedler & Co., New York) in 1941; bought by Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 21 April 1942 as Melozzo da Forli; gift to the National Gallery of Art in 1943; deaccessioned 1957 and returned to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; gift to El Paso Museum of Art, no. 1961.1.10.  Mersh was a son-in-law of the art dealer Charles Sedelmeyer and vice-consul of Luxembourg, residing in Paris. He is said to have brought both K1329 and its companion K1330 to the United States in c. 1885.  Carvalho was a journalist and later manager of all William Randolph Hearst Publications.
