(Count Alessandro Contini Bonacossi [1878-1955] Rome-Florence); sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 17 July 1931; gift to the High Museum in 1961, no.32.6  Originally commissioned the painting for Palazzo Barbaro in San Vitale, Italy  In 1866 Bassi apparently sold at least three companions to this painting to the dealer Favenza, and then they next appear in a French sale in 1874; the point at which this painting was separated from its companions is not known, but presumably between those two dates.
