Colonel Waugh was a director of the London and Eastern Banking Company, whose property was offered at public auction in 1958, perh The Bankers Magazine, vol XVIII, 1858, p. 766. Waugh himself had become bankrupt on 15 April 1857; it is possible that the painting was sold at that time as part of bankruptcy proceedings.
